When auto-dimming is turned on, your rear view mirror will automatically darken in order to reduce headlight glare. There is a rear light sensor that can detect when a vehicle behind you is shining its headlights toward your mirrors. Anytime the vehicle is started, the auto-dimming feature will be activated.
The Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS) optimizes distribution of light from the headlights according to driving circumstances. Depending on vehicle speed and steering input, the system points the low-beams headlights in the direction the driver intends to travel.
GVC Plus is Mazda's human-centric engineering approach that makes vehicle movement more responsive, confident, and comfortable. When you enter a turn, GVC Plus temporarily reduces engine torque to transfer weight to the front wheels and enhance grip. As you exit the turn, torque is restored to shift weight to the rear for greater stability. Finally, a slight braking force is applied to the outer front wheel when you quickly return the steering wheel to the center position, helping to straighten the vehicle. This smooth activation and behind-the-scenes control greatly reduce the need for steering corrections, smooth out G-force effects to minimize body movement, and reduce stress and fatigue on long trips.
The SKYACTIV-G 2.5L in the CX-5 features a 2.5L gasoline Skyactiv engine that produces 190 horsepower and 252 Nm of torque. This engine includes cylinder deactivation technology designed to improve fuel efficiency by deactivating 2 of the 4 cylinders during light driving conditions. It automatically switches between 4-cylinder and 2-cylinder operation based on driving conditions, regardless of driver input. Cylinders one and four are deactivated during light driving, such as cruising at a constant speed.
Mazda introduces Mi-Drive to enhance Skyactiv-Vehicle Dynamics and GVC Plus. With a simple toggle switch, drivers can choose between Normal, Sport, and Off-Road modes to match their driving needs. Normal mode is great for daily driving on paved roads, Sport mode enhances acceleration and handling for winding roads and highways, and Off-Road mode provides control on rough terrain, steep inclines, and deep snow. The status of each mode is displayed clearly on the seven-inch TFT LCD display.
Mazda's Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) uses radars mounted in the rear bumper to detect vehicles approaching from behind and in the adjacent lane. It alerts drivers to the presence of vehicles in the blind spot on either side.
